BEES:
Bees are good pollinators and we depend on them for our food supplies. We have had a rebound in the honey bee populations and the farmers are Very glad. Honey bees are usually harmless as are the other common bee species. The one exception is the Bumble Bee. They make shallow nests in the ground and refuse piles. They will sting when their nest is disturbed. ( Bees are actually our friends they produce honey which we eat and they polinate our crops so that they may provide us with food)

WASPS:
There are dozens if not hundreds of species of wasp living in America. Most of them are rarely noticed by humans. The most common wasp is the paper wasp, and it is very timid and mostly harmless.

Yellow Jackets:
Yellow Jackets are a big problem for us. There about 5 sub species found here and they all sting. Repeatedly.What many folks think is a sting from these pests is really a bite. They will try to take a chunk of your flesh if they are attracted to you. When they are alarmed, they bite and then stab repeatedly with their stingers. The nests are dangerous. Yellow jackets like to nest in the wall of a home. If you see lines of bee like insects flying in and out of your eaves or other opening, call us fast. They often eat right through your interior walls.

Bald Face Hornets:
Bald Face Hornets are the largest and fiercest of the yellow jacket family. They usually nest high in trees in big round paper nests and don’t come into contact with humans. Bald face hornets hunt other flying insects including yellow jackets and honey bees.

I’ve heard the following story countless of times from our clients. The couple is sitting on a couch in the family room and one of them is being constantly bitten, and their partner is oblivious to the problem. this makes sense because about half of our population is allergic the bites. These folks get raised itchy swollen reactions to every bite. The lucky half of our population will rarely even feel a bite, and a bite will leave a tiny red mark for an hour or so with no swelling or itching. Young children in particular seem to be bitten more often than adults.

Some dogs and cats get allergic reactions to flea bites. These poor animals then proceed to scratch and bite the area until the hair is gone and they start bleeding. even one bite can cause this misery in susceptible animals.

The culprit throughout most of the United States has been identified as the cat flea. It’s common from coast to coast were the climate allows.
